FAQ's for Backyard Ice Skating RinksRinks Home Frequently Asked Questions Photo Gallery More Info or a Quote We specialize in customizing a rink to fit your yard and your families budget. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions.Q: What is the cost? A: Costs vary depending on size of your rink. Some other variable that contribute to estimating the costs are: - Bracket application or stakes - Plastic boards or wood boards - Liner Material Q: Does my yard need to be level? A: No. Most yards are not level in order to provide proper drainage away from the home. A site that has a pitch of 6" or less is best, as it will take less effort to install the side boards, will use less water and take less time to get your base ice going. Q: Must the ground be perfectly smooth before installing my rink? A: Small bumps and a slight slope will not affect your rink as water will seek it's own level. However, sharp objects and large rocks must be removed first. Q: How long does it last? A: Materials can last for many years of service and accidental damage can be repaired. Generally, the skating season is from mid December to beginning of March. Q: When is the best time to install the rink? A: By Thanksgiving or BEFORE THE GROUND FREEZES! Q: What kind of maintenance is involved? A: Treat it like your sidewalk, shovel when needed. Some additional flooding is needed, depending on usage. Q: What will this do to my grass? A: Grass goes dormant in the fall. The liner actually will protect your grass from being saturated with moisture from the snow. In many cases it will be greener and healthier the following year. Q: What happens when spring comes? A: You will need to store the boards and brackets for the following year. Most customers store it in their shed. |
